If you’re an avid juicer, like me, then you may often wonder what you could be doing with all of that leftover pulp. Naturally, the more you juice, the more pulp you will have – so what’s the best thing to do with it?
The fibre found in fruits and vegetables is incredible, and all of that goodness is left sitting there in your leftover pulp ready to be binned – this is so wasteful when you consider how beneficial that pulp would be to our diets.
As you may know, the juicing process extracts the juice from the fibre, which allows your body to absorb all of the nutrients and living enzymes from the juice, while giving your body respite from digestion; slowing the process in which the body breaks down and releases sugar, preventing blood sugar from spiking and crashing. Fibre can make you feel fuller for longer and keeps your digestive system running smoothly and efficiently. It makes sense then that by re-using your leftover juice pulp for other uses will give you an extra boost in a different format.
So …Let’s take a closer look at my top 5 ways of re-using your leftover juice pulp:
- Compost – A very popular and environmentally friendly way of infusing your garden with a variety of nutrients, creating healthy soil and robust, high-yielding plants. It also prevents the waste from ending up in landfill, where it could create methane gas and pollute the ground water.
- Soup – Adding leftover juice pulp to your soup recipes; cook off your pulp and create a puree with your blender and create the ultimate soup:

If you don’t find the time to re-use the leftover pulp then place the pulp in resealable freezer bags and keep frozen until you’re ready to use the pulp. Although some of the nutritional value may be lost, the majority of the fibre will remain.
